Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus said:
"Why all this commotion and crying?
The child is not dead, but asleep."
But they laughed at him. A lovely
feature of our Catholic tradition
is that we can have a good sense of
humour even about the most sacred
things. However what we see in the
Gospel today is not humour but ridicule.
And there is a lot of that today about
what we hold sacred. There are a lot
of good jokes about the marriage relationship,
for example. But there is also a lot
of ridicule about it today which we
should not tolerate. Young people
find it difficult today to admit to
going to Mass because their peers
make fun of them for it. We need to
find the ways of encouraging them
to keep going. Our society will tolerate
anything but people who treasure their
faith. We need to stand by one another
and let Christ be present as saviour
for the world.

The Quietness of God
All of us at some
time or other have experienced the presence
of God in the power of nature. But the Lord’s
presence is more often offered to us in
quieter ways: in the love that we share
with other believers, in the calm expression
of the Lord’s teaching by the Church,
in the celebration of the sacraments, in
the silence of prayer.

Prayer of Spouses
for Each Other
Lord Jesus, grant
that I and my spouse may have a true and
understanding love for each other. Grant
that we may both be filled with faith and
trust. Give us the grace to live with each
other in peace and harmony. May we always
bear with one another's weaknesses and grow
from each other's strengths. Help us to
forgive one another's failings and grant
us patience, kindness, cheerfulness and
the spirit of placing the well-being of
one another ahead of self. May the love
that brought us together grow and mature
with each passing year. Bring us both ever
closer to You through our love for each
other. Let our love grow to perfection.
Amen.
