Questions
people ask
Q. What are the synoptic gospels? Are
these a short synopsis of the other gospels?
A. The name ÔSynoptic’
is misleading for us today because it suggests
a shorter or abbreviated version of something.
But when applied to the gospels it has it’s
original, Greek meaning of writers looking at
something from the same point of view. Since
the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke have the
same outline plan and more or less the same
material, they are known as the Synoptic Gospels.
Each of the writers puts his own stamp on the
story. Matthew, our Sunday evangelist this year,
emphasis the teaching of Jesus, especially about
the Kingdom or Reign of God on earth
Parish

welcome to attend.
Prayer of Solace
May
Christ support us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy
may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest and peace at the last. Amen.
