Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” “Indeed, I promise you, today you will be with me in paradise.” This beautiful exchange between Jesus and the man dying on the cross beside him is one of the sources of hope and inspiration for people of all times. When we call him king, we are not talking about someone who lords it over us but rather of someone who brings us into the fullness of life. Even in the depths of his own suffering he has compassion for the man beside him. His kingdom can only be built on that same compassion. As his followers we are called to forgive one another as he has forgiven us. At the end of this Liturgical Year we owe it to ourselves to let the past go in so far as it holds us back from being people of great love. And we owe it to one another to build each other up in love in our homes and in our faith community. Then the world will believe in Jesus Christ.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

First Reading: 2 Samuel : 5: 1-3
They anointed David King of Israel.

Second Reading: Colossians 1: 12-20

Football: In Gortin last Sunday our seniors were beaten by narrowest of margins by Kildress after extra time in a relegation play-off 0-11 to 0-10. After twelve years in senior football we now drop down to Intermediate football next season. I suppose we can look back with regret at some of the games we lost and also not having one of our star players Martin Penrose available to us in important games throughout the season. Our main priority now is to bounce back next season to senior football where we belong.
