No Work, No Food

God is the source of all life. To him we owe our very being and his plan for each of us is to be raised to everlasting life with him in heaven. Our faith calls us to express our gratitude for this gift by the respect which we show for our own lives and the lives of all God’s creatures. As well as living our lives as fully as possible, we should also oppose anything which threatens or degrades human life.

Questions people ask

Q. If you were asked to celebrate Mass in the Tridentine Rite, how would you answer?
A. Candidly, I would be reluctant to go back to a rite which lacks the great theological riches of the changes introduced at the time of Pope Paul VI. The revised rite is, in fact, far more conservative than the rite going back to the Council of Trent, as it conserved elements from the early Christian centuries such as the Prayers of the Faithful and the sign of peace. The Tridentine Rite has only one form of the Eucharistic Prayer (Eucharistic Prayer I): sadly, this prayer lacks the very important prayer calling down the Holy Spirit on the gifts of bread and wine.

FORTY HOURS ADORATION
Next weekend we will have the Forty Hours Adoration in the parish. This will begin after the 12 noon mass on Saturday and continue until the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening and again on Sunday after the 11.00 am Mass until Sunday evening when will close with a period of prayer at 6.00 pm. This is a time of special prayer in the parish when it is hoped that there will always be someone in the church spending quiet time with the Lord. There may be some groups who may wish to take it upon themselves to arrange a rota to ensure that there is always someone in the church during the times of Exposition.

THE PARISH BINGO
The parish bingo continues in the Parish Hall @ 9.00 pm on Friday evening. Why not come along and support this parish function.

Book Launch
Canon Harry Trimble & Councillor James Emery invite you and friends to the launch of their second publication, Castlederg And It’s Red River Valley Volume II on Wednesday 21st November at 8pm in Derg Parish Youth Hall, Lower Strabane Road, Castlederg. Light refreshments will be served and Derg Valley Choir will provide some entertainment. All profits will be divided between 5 local charities.

Legion Of Mary
The newly formed Legion of Mary members will commence their work in the parish this week. Their intention is to make some house visits and it is hoped that they will be made welcome when they call. A meeting takes place every Thursday night at 8pm in the parish hall so please feel free to come along.

Bazaar
All promoters are asked to have returns made by Saturday 24th November. The 2006 Bazaar was a huge success due to the support of the whole parish resulting in the overall takings being £13,980, so it is hoped that this years bazaar will get the same support.

TROCAIRE
Global Gift. Show how much you care this Christmas. Why not take a Trocaire Gift Brochure 2007 from the rear of the church and do your Christmas Shopping from it. In giving a Trocaire Global Gift you will know that it will bring joy to the person who receives it but it will in many cases give life to a needy person in the Third World.
