Second
Sunday of Lent - Year A

Reflection
The story of the Transfiguration
is put before us this weekend. Jesus takes Peter,
James and John with him up Mount Tabor and there,
in their presence, he is transfigured. This
incident, in which he reveals his hidden glory,
is there to prepare them for the experience
on another mountain, that of Calvary, when they
would have to come to terms with his disfiguration
as a result of his being tortured and crucified.
Jesus seeks to strengthen their faith in him
by revealing his glory so as to prepare them
for the scandal of the cross. The image of the
Transfigured Lord is for us all a reminder of
the glory in which we will share if we are faithful
to the cross.

Prayer
for Trust in Jesus
O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness and we feel our weakness
and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us
to have perfect trust in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You, we shall see Your
hand,
Your purpose,
Your will through all things. Amen
Prayer of Solace
May
Christ support us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy
may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest and peace at the last. Amen.
