The Baptism of Jesus

“You are my Son, the beloved, my favour rests on you.” Those wonderful words, spoken to Jesus on the occasion of his Baptism in the Jordan, are spoken to each one of us because of our baptism into him. Just listen to God speak those words from his heart into your heart now: “you are my daughter, my son, the beloved, my favour rests on you.” Our major task is to live out that love of God in our vocation. For you as a couple committed in love, make your life together full of the joy of God’s love. Single people, religious, priests, live out the same vocation of love in different ways but for the same purpose, to fill the world with the presence and the love of God. As a community of faith, the parish is a gathering of all these vocations so that, working with one another, we can radiate that same love to all those around us.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Questions people ask

Q. Is there any special reason why the Holy Sprit appeared as a dove?

A.
This is a good example of a theme running through the Bible. The dove descending on water recalls the creation story in which God’s spirit hovered over the primitive waters in making order out of chaos. Then, later, it was a dove bearing an olive branch which let Noah know that the flood waters had subsided as peace with God was restored. In the Song of Songs, the lover calls on the beloved as a beautiful dove. So, the dove is an apt symbol for the Holy Spirit in the ordering of creation, in divine peace, in intimate love.

PLEASE NOTE-

Due to many families being disappointed when it comes to seeking a Months Mind or a First Anniversary Mass for a relative. In order to facilitate these families in their bereavement, from 1st. March, only Months Mind Masses and First Anniversary Masses can be booked in advance for the Saturday Evening Vigil Mass. Anniversary Masses may be booked at any of the Morning Masses or the Vigil Mass in the week prior to the anniversary. Should a Funeral Mass occur the 10.00am Mass is cancelled that morning, Anniversary Masses booked on that day will be rescheduled to another suitable day. Thank you for your co-operation.
