Week’s Calendar

Monday
8 - The Birthday of the Blessed Virgin
Mary. We celebrate the Birthday of Mary, who
brought the dawn of hope and salvation to the
world. She is the true Ark of the Covenant,
the temple of God, because her body received
the one Mediator.
Tuesday 9 - St Ciaran, abbot.
Wednesday 10 - Weekday (23rd
Week in Ordinary Time)
Thursday 11 - Weekday
Friday 12 - The Holy Name of
Mary.
Also, St Ailbe, bishop. Ailbe is sometimes claimed
as one of the pre-Patrician saints, but the
annals note his death in 528. A tradition held
that he went to Rome and was ordained bishop
by the Pope. He founded the monastery of Emly
which became very important in Munster. A 9th
century Rule bears his name.
Saturday 13 - St John Chrysostom,
bishop and doctor of the Church. John, 347-407,
was one of the four great Greek Doctors. The
Ôgolden-mouthed’ preacher was Archbishop
of Constantinople. He incurred much opposition
and died in exile. He is patron saint of preachers.
