“He (Jesus)
makes the deaf hear and the dumb
speak.” In
the Gospels we can hear a real
sense of awe among the people
who witnessed the miracles of
Jesus. It wasn’t just for
the fact that he cured people
but also it was because of the
wonderful gentleness and compassion
that he showed towards those who
were suffering. That same power
and those same qualities of his
love are there for us today. They
are given to us to transform the
quality of life in our homes and
community. We will know that we
have been touched by him this
week if we let our ears be opened
to hear the needs of those in
our homes and community and respond
to them. Equally we will know
his touch if we let our tongues
be loosened to speak to one another
words of love, of praise, of comfort,
of encouragement.

Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

To
Protect Life
Loving
God, I thank you for the gift of life you gave
and continue to give to me and to all of us. Merciful
God, I ask your pardon and forgiveness for my
own failure and the failure of all people to respect
and foster all forms of life in our universe.
Gracious God, I pray that with your grace, I and
all people will reverence, protect, and promote
all life and that we will be especially sensitive
to the life of the unborn, the abused, neglected,
disabled, and the elderly. I pray, too, that all
who make decisions about life in any form will
do so with wisdom, love, and courage. Living God,
I praise and glorify you as Father, Source of
all life, as Son, Saviour of our lives, and as
Spirit, Sanctifier of our lives. Amen
Prayer for
Those Who Suffer
For those
who suffer, and those who cry this night, give
them repose, Lord; a pause in their burdens. Let
there be minutes where they experience peace,
not of man but of angels. Love them, Lord, when
others cannot. Hold them, Lord, when we fail with
human arms. Hear their prayers and give them the
ability to hear You back in whatever language
they best understand
Prayer for
the Home
Visit,
we beseech Thee, O Lord, this dwelling, and drive
far from it all snares of the enemy; let Thy holy
Angels dwell herein, to preserve us in peace;
and let Thy blessing be upon us forever. Through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
