Corpus Christi

“They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.” The miracle of the five loaves and two fish distributed among so many people is given to us as a symbol of the greatest gift and miracle of all, the Eucharist. As God’s people we are so privileged to be fed with the Body and Blood of Christ week after week, so much so that we can even take it for granted. We have a responsibility to keep the wonder of this gift alive in us. We also have the responsibility to live this miracle through our love for one another in our homes and communities. Through the power of Christ there was more left over after thousands of people had been fed than when they started. That is what the same Jesus wants to happen among us today as a result of the Eucharist we celebrate.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

CONFIRMATION PLEDGE.

The children of the parish who were confirmed by Bishop Hegarty on May 16th wishing to make their pledge to abstain from alcohol and drugs will have the opportunity to do so at the Vigil Mass next Saturday 12th June. It is hoped that parents will encourage their children to take this pledge to help them to avoid alcohol and drugs until they are adults and maybe some of them will keep the pledge for life like so many have done before them.

A word of thanks to the people who put in such an effort to make the Confirmation and First Communion such a success in our parish this year. To those who helped with the cleaning of the church for Confirmation, the preparation of the church for both Sundays, the church displays, the catering corp., those who made the teas in the hall, the choir and the altar servers. Bishop Hegarty was impressed with the children in their attention and responses, it is thanks to the teachers who prepared them and you the parents who have instilled the faith into your children. Thanks must also go to the large number of men who turned up last Thursday evening and did a splendid job strimming and clearing the drive and surrounding area A big ‘Thank You’ to all of you.
