Easter
Sunday
Sunday,
4th April 2010

“They
have taken the Lord out of the tomb,”
Mary of Magdala said, “and we
don’t know where they have put him.”
On the first Easter morning there was a sense
of excitement among the disciples but it was
mixed with anxiety and fear. They didn’t
know what was happening but they knew that something
was. As we celebrate our Easter we can know
exactly what has happened. However we can be
so familiar with this wonderful truth that we
may have little if any excitement about it.
It was not the soldiers who took the body of
Jesus from the tomb but rather the power of
God. And where God has put Jesus is into our
hearts, our minds, our company with one another,
above us, below us, all around us. The deepest
reality of our lives has been changed forever
by what happened today and Jesus is risen and
living among us in our homes and in our faith
community. We need to attend to him there.

Easter Sunday,
4th April 2010
The Resurrection
of the Lord
First Reading
: Acts of the Apostles 10: 34, 37-43
We have eaten and drunk with him after his resurrection.
Second Reading:
Colossians 3: 1-4
You must look for things that are in heaven,
where Christ is.
Gospel: John
20: 1-9
Till this moment they had failed to understand
the teaching of scripture,
that he must rise from the dead.

Act of Faith
O my God,
I firmly believe all the truths that the Holy
Catholic Church believes and teaches; I believe
these truths, O Lord, because Thou, the infallible
Truth, hast revealed them to her; in this faith
I am resolved to live and die. Amen. Act of Hope
O my God, relying on Thy promises, I hope that,
through the infinite merits of Jesus Christ, Thou
wilt grant me pardon of my sins, and the graces
necessary to serve Thee in this life and to obtain
eternal happiness in the next. Amen Act of Love
O my God, I love Thee with my whole heart and
above all things, because Thou art infinitely
good and perfect; and I love my neighbour as myself
for love of Thee. Grant that I may love Thee more
and more in this life, and in the next for all
eternity. Amen

PRAYER
FOR THE CHURCH IN IRELAND
God of our
fathers,
renew us in the faith which is our life and salvation,
the hope which promises forgiveness and interior
renewal,
the charity which purifies and opens our hearts
to love you, and in you, each of our brothers
and sisters.
Lord Jesus Christ,
may the Church in Ireland renew her age-old commitment
to the education of our young people in the way
of truth and goodness,
holiness and generous service to society.
Holy Spirit, comforter, advocate and guide,
inspire a new springtime of holiness and apostolic
zeal
for the Church in Ireland.
May our sorrow and our tears,
our sincere effort to redress past wrongs,
and our firm purpose of amendment
bear an abundant harvest of grace
for the deepening of the faith
in our families, parishes, schools and communities,
for the spiritual progress of Irish society,
and the growth of charity, justice, joy and peace
within the whole human family.
To you, Triune God,
confident in the loving protection of Mary,
Queen of Ireland, our Mother,
and of Saint Patrick, Saint Brigid and all the
saints,
do we entrust ourselves, our children,
and the needs of the Church in Ireland.
Amen.

‘Why
Marriage Matters’
A leaflet,
‘Why Marriage Matters’, has been published
by the Irish Bishops’ Conference, in support
of marriage and family life. The leaflet summarises
key elements of Catholic teaching on marriage
and reiterates the importance of the family as
the natural primary and fundamental unit of society.
It is available on the Irish Bishops’ Conference
website www.catholicbishops.ie. Parishes can also
order copies from Veritas, through the Diocesan
Office.
