The
Second Sunday after Christmas
Christ,
the Wisdom of God.
“The Word
was made flesh, he lived among us, and
we saw his glory.” It is
the beginning of a new calendar year and
I am thinking of all the wonderful married
couples that I have met over many years
of my priesthood. Thank you for being
the hope of the Church and the world simply
through your love for one another. It
is said that the ‘the glory of God
is humanity fully alive’. That is
found in a very special way in your committed
love in marriage and this new year is
a really good time to renew your love
and set out to make this year 2009 a time
of joy and gladness for one another and
for all of us. At this time of New Year’s
resolutions it would be to the glory of
God and the good of all if we were to
make the health and well-being of marriage
and family life our main concern this
year, as couples, as families, and as
a parish community. What could you put
in place that would help this?
Fr. Johnny
Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Quiet
Moments with Padre Pio.
Peace
is simplicity of heart, serenity of mind,
tranquility of soul, the bond of love. Peace
mans order, harmony in our whole being;
it means continual contentment springing
from the knowledge of a good conscience;
it is the holy joy of a heart in which God
reigns. Peace is the way to perfection,
indeed in peace is perfection to be found.
The devil, who is well aware of all this,
makes every effort to have us lose our peace.
Each day in the
Derry Diocese we are asked to pray for our
priests named on that particular day.
THIS WEEK
WE PRAY FOR:
Fr. Declan Boland
Fr. Eugene Boland
Fr. Francis Bradley
Fr. Manus Bradley
Fr. Brian Brady
Fr. Bernard Bryson

Questions
people ask
Q.
‘In the beginning was the word.’
How may I understand the poetic prologue
of John’s gospel?
A.
The focus of John is on the divine origin
of Jesus. He develops the coming of Jesus
in five stages. Jesus is identified as the
eternal Word, truly divine, before any creation.
Then in the act of creation the Word of
God calls things into being. The Word was
the source of light in the revelation of
God through the prophets. When Jesus was
born of Mary, the Word was made flesh. In
his mission, Jesus is the inviting Word:
ÔTo all who accepted him he gave the
power to become children of God.
